About Fairy Lake

A trip around the southwestern tip of Vancouver Island is an extraordinary adventure! The roads are much less travelled so the going is slow along narrow tree-lined, winding roads. Glimpses of the rugged coastline disappear as you make your way inland to cross the island heading towards Lake Cowichan.   Soon after leaving Port Renfrew, one finds themselves in the magical area of Fairy Creek.  You wind your way through giant old-growth forests along gravel roads. There is a particular spot that is so unique,  it can't be mistaken for any other place. In the middle of Fairy Lake sits a tiny fir tree growing out of a sunken Douglas Fir.  On a still autumn morning, we were able to capture a shot of the tree in perfect reflection. It can be a confusing illusion, but once it all comes into focus it evokes feelings of resilience, strength and serenity.
