About Foothills Sunrise

The Chinook conditions that exist in Southern Alberta during the fall create opportunities to view spectacular sunrises. We are lucky enough to have our studio situated on top of a south-facing hill with uninterrupted views to the east. Since we are early risers, we have recently taken the opportunity to capture some of these sunrises, often it is a race with the neighbour to get the prime spot for snapping photos on the hillside. The underbelly of the high clouds, brought in by the chinooks, are lit up in the early morning sun and an ever-evolving light show displays colours of reds, oranges, pinks, and yellows. This painting tries to capture a moment in time as the sun lights up another sunny autumn day filling it with hope.
