About Night or Day @ Patricia Lake

Patricia Lake is nestled amongst the hiking trails of the Pyramid Lake area in Jasper National Park.  The calm, crystal clear waters provide a tranquil spot to sit and ponder. The day we visited the colours on the bottom of the lake revealed themselves in the late afternoon autumn sun. The mirrorlike surface offered a stunning reflection of Pyramid Mountain poised in the background. It reminded Kupu of a quote by one of her favourite authors Henry David Thoreau "A lake is a landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is Earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature."  Desiring to create this deeper feeling of one’s ‘own nature’ Kupu decided to paint what she imagined the lake to look like at a more mysterious time of day when twilight transitions into the deep blue night. After finishing the painting we stepped back to realize if you flip it upside down a new perspective is revealed.  That is how Night or Day @ Patricia Lake was born.
