About Yamnuska (Wall of Stone in Stoney Nakoda) @ Leighton Centre

Yamnuska is one of the first mountains that comes into view after making your way over Scott Lake Hill via the Trans Canada Highway west. The Stoney Nakoda named this peak the Wall of Stone and you can see why as the large rockface stands guard above the trees far below the scree slopes that seem to anchor the wall above. On early morning adventures into the mountains, the rockface of Yamnuska is illuminated by the early morning sun. We have hiked this mountain on several occasions and when you get to the top and creep to the ledge butterflies in your stomach overcome you as you peer down into the valley. Resident crows soar and sing and it feels as if you too are floating amongst the clouds.
