The rock flour which floats in the lake gives it that unmistakable Rocky Mountain turquoise colour. Depending on the time of day you visit and where the sun is situated in the sky can dramatically affect the scene. An early morning sunrise when the sun is only hitting the tips of the peaks allows for a deeper colour in the water below as it sits in shadow. If you are lucky and the winds are calm, a mirror like reflection can be captured in the deep blue colour of the lake. Wait until the sun rises high above the peaks and the colour of the water morphs from a deep blue to a turquoise right before your eyes.
